Country Coordinator for YAGM Argentina-Uruguay:

Krystle M. Originally from the northwoods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Krystle currently resides in the very urban city of Buenos Aires, Argentina with her loving husband, Ignacio.

She studied Social Work and Lay Ministry at Concordia University Wisconsin and received her Master´s Degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her studies concentrated on Marriage & Family Therapy and Trauma Counseling.

When nearing the end of her Master´s degree and discerning whether or not to go to seminary, an old friend told her about the YAGM program. The parts of social work that she had the most passion for were the focus on relationships and culture. Her friend explained that the YAGM program might be a way to further her discernment about seminary and to live in relationship with people from another culture.  Long story, short, she had a wonderful experience serving as a YAGM volunteer in the Patagonia Region of Argentina (in the south).

When she completed her YAGM year, she returned to the US and worked for the ELCA as a Short-term Recruiter for the Great Lakes and Southwest Regions. She then worked as an Adjunct Professor, teaching  a few undergraduate psychology classes in hopes of beginning her own studies at a seminary the following fall.  She had all of her paperwork ready to be entered into the Candidacy Process, and was accepted to an ELCA seminary when she learned about the position opening of the YAGM Country Coordinator for Argentina and Uruguay.  She felt called to apply and here she is today!

Ignacio is originally from San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. He received his degree in Administration from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. He and Krystle met at his cousin´s wedding when Krystle was a volunteer in his hometown and while he was visiting his family during his summer vacation.  They continued their relationship long-distance and they were married in February 2013.  After they were married, Ignacio moved across the country to Buenos Aires and officially began his role supporting the YAGM volunteers.

Although Ignacio is Argentine, he is still serving in a context that is very new and unknown at times.
San Carlos de Bariloche is a city that is surrounded by nature (mountains, forests, lakes, rivers), whereas Buenos Aires is a very different environment and moves at a very different pace than his hometown. Nonetheless, Ignacio enjoys meeting the volunteers and learning about their cross-cultural experiences.
